Farewell to San Jose and Hello Chicago Cupcakes

One of our dearest friends recently moved away to Chicago. In honor of her, we made custom cupcakes for her farewell party. Instead of just flying from California to Chicago, our friend decided to make a road trip out of it with lots of pit-stops on the way. These cupcakes were a replica of her road map for her trip. It starts off with a real compass to help her guide her way (which she ended up actually using when she couldn't find one of her pit-stops!) and ends with a miniature, edible Chicago. We used Twizzlers Pull-n-Peel for the dotted line, and gum paste for some decorations such as the "LA" symbol, the Rocky Mountains, and the trees. If you look carefully, you can see little starbucks symbols through out the trip. Our friend is an avid Starbucks customer, and we knew she would be making a lot of Starbucks stops on the way! The tears of joy and the look on her face was a good sign that she enjoyed these tasty treats! And as a special request, we added bite-sized Milky Ways on the bottom of each cupcake! They were very delicious!
